Early years

James was born on 1 June 1819 at Belchford, Lincolnshire. He was converted on 8 January 1836 and in the March of that year his name appeared on the plan.

Ministry

James was richly dowered with a fine robust physique, his conscience was keen to perceive the difference between right and wrong, his vivid imagination was quick in penetrating the invisible, and his faith grasped the impalpable

Family

James married Dorothy Parker (1820-1863) on 28 December 1848 at Mill St Chapel, Hull, Yorkshire. Census returns identify five children.

  • Mary (b1858) – a dressmaker in 1881
  • Lucy Ann (b1861)

James married Jane Barker (1825-1893) on 20 May 1864 at Great Driffield, Yorkshire. Census returns identify two children.

  • Laura Ellen (1870-1884)

James died on 25 September 1892 at Worksop, Nottinghamshire.
