Dunton Bassett Primitive Methodist Chapel, Leicestershire

Grid ref SP547907

Dunton Bassett Primitive Methodist Chapel was built in 1840. In 1851 it provided 20 free and 115 other sittings. The date of 1881 on the plaque suggests that the chapel was rebuilt in that year and the ground plan on later OS maps which show a perched gable facing the street is more typical of 1881 that 1840. In 1940 the chapel had seating for 120 in pews and there was one schoolroom and no other rooms. The chapel was closed and later demolished (it is uncertain as to which event the date of 1972 relates) and the site used for access to backland development. Its former existence is commemorated by a plaque on a nearby wall
