Lynn: Sunday School, Lynn, Norfolk

From the Primitive Methodist Magazine, 1838

The anniversary of our Lynn Sunday school, took place, Sunday, Nov. 19, 1837.  A sermon was preached in the afternoon in behalf of the institution; after which one of the boys recited an address to the congregation, which produced a good effect

In the evening, there was a public examination of the children.  The chapel was crowded to excess, and it is believed that about two hundred persons went away, not being able to gain admittance.  The children recited their pieces with good effect. Several of the Teachers spoke on the utility of Sunday schools, and an unusual interest in behalf of the school was excited, insomuch that several persons have since offered to contribute monthly towards it support.

I had the pleasure of being one of the first teachers in this school.  On the day of its formation, sixty scholars were admitted, and it was a good day to my soul.  Some of the happiest hours of my life have been spent in this school; and when I look at the happy results of the Sabbath school labours in this place, my heart rejoices.  Some of our pious teachers, and zealous praying labourers, have been raised up in this institution.  May the blessing of the Lord rest upon it, and may all the children rise up to call the Redeemer blessed.  Amen.                                                  Jas. Garner.
