Hargreaves, Richard (1818-1838)

Richard Hargreaves was born January 18,1818, and when 17 years of age, he went to hear Bro. Joseph Hutchinson preach at Smallbridge — was convinced of sin — cried for mercy — believed on the Lord Jesus Christ, and felt his pardoning love shed abroad in his heart; joined class, and adorned his profession by a holy life; and was active in the Sunday school, and in the means of grace.  About 18 months before his death he was appointed to lead a class, and the Lord blessed his labours.  He was for some months, much afflicted, but was resigned to the will of the Lord.  His faith was firm, his peace great, and his prospects clear.  With uplifted hands he shouted, “I have a sweet hope of glory in my soul.”  And when dying he said, “Open the gates,” and so fell asleep in the 20th year of his age.
