Obituary

On 25th August 1917, our young friend Harry of the R.A.M.C. passed away in the Woolwich Military Hospital. He was one of many whose death means no ordinary loss. Intimately associated with the School, C.E. and Choir at Bamfurlong, and as a member of the Church, he kept his record clean and has left behind him many memories that will long be cherished. He served in France for well-nigh two years with only one “leave” home – an ever memorable visit. In the hospitals at Boulogne and Woolwich he manifested a wonderful patience and courage and cheerfulness. It is all a moving story. Writing to his minister he said: “The sisters here say they have never saw anyone as cheerful as I am, seeing the wounds are bad. But you see, they are not all bad and I only have nine.” Brave heart! The nurse standing by said to the Captain “He’s simply trusting: Aren’t you?” she added, turning to the bed, and our hero unable to speak, smiled his answer. So he went home to God.
