Stafford, Noah Wardle (1824-1897)

Noah was born on 22 March 1824 at Marple, Cheshire to parents John and Jane. John was a labourer.

At the age of 15, he became an earnest teacher in the Sunday School.

Noah worked as a calico weaver before entering the ministry.

Ministry

Noah’s obituary records that he was a broad-minded man, genial and catholic in spirit, and thoroughly loyal to the Church of his choice.

Family

Noah married Caroline Taylor (1828-1886) in the spring of 1858 at Coventry, Warwickshire. Census returns identify six children.

  • John Wardle Thomas (1861-1944) – a Wesleyan minister
  • Eva Jane (b1863) – a schoolmistress (1891)
  • Albert Taylor (1865-1942) – a manager of grocery stores
  • Arthur Noah (b1865)
  • Ernest George (1866-1913) – a commercial traveller
  • Ellen Maud Mabel (1868-1934) – married Charles Roberts, a schoolmaster

Noah died on 7 May 1897 at Shrewsbury, Shropshire.
