West Halton Primitive Methodist Chapel, Lincolnshire

Lincolnshire Archives, Lincoln, has the following information relating to this chapel:

  • Ref. MUM/9/6: a photograph of West Halton Primitive Methodist Chapel.

The chapel was built in 1877. The 1941 Methodist Statistical Return describes it as brick built, seating 130 with 2 additional rooms. At that time it was in the Scunthorpe and Winterton Circuit.

The 1877 Primitive Methodist magazine records  the laying of the memorial  stones for a new Primitive Methodist chapel at West Hatton (sic) in the Winterton station.. We are told nothing more.

The 1886 Ordnance Survey map shows a Primitive Methodist chapel shows a Primitive Methodist chapel at the southwest corner of the junction of Alkborough Lane with Coleby Road. On Street View in 2009, the site is a grass verge and Twentieth Century housing..
