Thomas Twigg, of Hollington, Derbyshire, brickmaker

1809-23

THOMAS TWIGG, the son of James and Mary Twigg, of Hollington in Derbyshire, was born March 7th 1809.  The serious impressions made on his mind, arose from the following circumstances; in the summer of 1822 he worked at the brick-yard, and, as his master was getting clay, the earth fell down upon him, and crushed him in such a manner that he died about six weeks after. From the time of this awful visitation upon the master the boy Thomas became very serious, and was very diligent in attending at the Sabbath School, and was very attentive when there his illness began in February 1823….he appeared to know that he would not recover.  He used frequently to say to his mother he should soon be in eternity, and that he should go to heaven, and asked her if she should go there too…..  He closed his eyes in death, to be for ever with the Lord on the 10th April 1823 in the fourteenth year of his age.
