Bethel Primitive Methodist chapel was located on Attercliffe Common, just to the west of its junction with Milford Street and Broughton Lane, where the Arena Square pub is in 2015.

The Primitive Methodist magazine of 1886 (page 381)  contains a note about the laying of foundation stones for new schools “under auspicious circumstances”.
