Rainworth Primitive Methodist chapel was opened in 1914.

Gresley FC online records the following about one of their former players, John Topliss who played for them from 1891 until 1894.

“John Topliss married Sarah Louise Chadbourn (also of Gresley). He died in 1939 in his early fifties.  John became an engine-winder at Rufford Colliery and was a significant trade unionist.  Also a Methodist local preacher and a Justice of the Peace.  

Opened his home in Rainworth, Nottinghamshire for Primitive Methodist services before the chapel was built.”
