Paston Primitive Methodist chapel

Chapel Road Paston NORTH WALSHAM NR28 9TD

Paston Village Hall
Keith Guyler 1986

Keith Guyler built up an invaluable photographic archive of well over a thousand former Primitive Methodist chapels; however John Capes points out that what he thought was the former chapel in Paston was actually the village hall.

Mr Guyler does not give an opening date for Paston chapel but tells us is that it served until the 1960s.  It is still marked on the 1:2,500 Ordnance Survey map of 1970.

Can anyone provide a picture of the chapel?

  • The photo you are using on this site for Paston Methodist Chapel is wrong. The photo shows the Village Hall, which is on Vicarage Road, but the Methodist Chapel was on Chapel Road.

The Chapel was a brick building attached to the back of two houses, and was near the bottom of Chapel Road, on the north side, at Grid Ref 318347.

I would suggest that you remove the photo as soon as possible to avoid confusing people who may be looking for the Chapel, which I think it has now been demolished.

  • The Norfolk Heritage Explorer website provides the following information about this chapel.

“Primitive Methodist Chapel built in 1830. This is a small chapel with low brick walls and hipped and pantiled roof. There is a round arched entrance at the end with a fanlight and two similarly arched windows at opposite ends which flank the pulpit.”
