Murrow Fen PM Chapel, Cambridgeshire

Rachel Larkinson

This small chapel, surrounded by fields and scattered farms was kept going by a small congregation for many years and was much loved in the community, but eventually it closed in the first decade of this century. For much of it’s life it had no electricity and running water, and the afternoon services had to finish by 4pm in winter, as the light faded. Eventually electricity was installed and then in the late nineties running water and the accompanying facilities were added.  Harvest festivals were big occasions, involving local farmers from a wide neighbourhood, but it is the faithfulness and care for each other of the members that is a lasting memory.
