James was born on 25 April 1810 at Longtown, Herefordshire.

Ministry

Petty records that during his superintendency in Oswestry, from 1856, membership of the circuit increased by 300 and three new chapels were opened.

Family

His wife, Mary Hewitt, daughter of Samuel and Elizabeth, was born at Shrewsbury, Shropshire on 29 September 1814. They married in Oswestry in 1839. She died on 9 June 1890. They had six children identified in census returns.

James died on 25 July 1888 at Walkden, Lancashire.
