  • Hugglescote Station Hill Primitive Methodist Chapel, Leicestershire
Hugglescote Station Hill Primitive Methodist Chapel was built of a whiteish brick in 1875. The backmost bay is in red brick which suggests a later construction. The front steps are a modern addition replacing steps which went directly from the entrance to the highway. The chapel itself was on the first floor and beneath was the schoolroom whose bricked up widows can be seen at each side of the building. The openings in the facade present a curious mix of styles. The main entrance is under a Gothic arch of red brick edged in blue while the windows are flat headed with chamfered upper corners, all of white brick. Liberal use was made of the popular sting course of red brick between two courses of blue. In 1940 the chapel which measured 52 feet by 30 feet had seating for 220 persons in pews. There was one school room 40 feet by 30 feet and three vestries or classrooms The chapel had been closed by 1970. It had various subsequent uses but is now in a poor condition and appears to be abandoned.

  • In 2018 the chapel looks disused and unloved.  The foundaton stones are by and large illegible because of erosion or covered by the staircase at the front of the building.

I’ve added photos and a location map to this page.
