Hackett, Henry (1831-1898)

Transcription of Obituary In the Christian Messenger

MR. HENRY HACKETT.-— Our Fulbeck Society sustained a great loss in the death of Brother H. Hackett, who, for over 24 years, had been connected with our Church there. He was converted in 1864 and joined the Holdforth Street Church, New Wortley, Leeds, and for nine years was identified with that church, and held various offices therein. He was an energetic and successful worker in the Sabbath school, and also paid considerable attention to visiting the sick. Being a Railway employee he was removed from Leeds to Saxilby, and ultimately to Fulbeck in 1874, and he resided there till his death. His home was always open to ministers and local preachers alike, and many can bear witness to his kindness and hospitality. He took a great interest in our Society at Fulbeck and succeeded, in conjunction with others, in greatly reducing the debt upon the chapel, and he stood by our Church there in all its vicissitudes. He was a respected official the greater part of the time, and at the time of his death held the chief offices in the Church. He suffered much bodily pain during his last days, but his trust in God remained unshaken, and he finally fell asleep in Jesus, respected and loved, and entered into the rest and joy of God’s faithful ones.
