Jones, Elizabeth (1850-1900)

Transcription of Obituary In the Christian Messenger

MRS. ELIZABETH JONES.— On Friday, Nov. 30th, 1900, our dear sister passed into her eternal rest. Born in 1850, she had the advantages of a Christian home, and lived under the gracious influence of the Church. In her girlhood she had strong desires to be a Christian, and could relate how, in response to the deep longings of her soul, she ‘found the Lord.’ She was joined in marriage to Mr. William Jones, who is one of the most honoured and acceptable local preachers in the Whitchurch Circuit. Our sister was a most affectionate wife and a fond mother. She lived near to her Saviour, and was constant in her attendance at the means of grace. She loved the praises of Zion, and her vocal gifts made her a valuable member of the choir. Her devotion to our Tallarn Green Church continued to the time of her departure, and though laid aside by affliction for more than two years, her chief concern was in regard to the church and its services. Her fellowship with the Lord was very sweet through her sufferings, and her end was beautiful and triumphant. She was interred on December 4th in the burial-ground connected with the sanctuary she loved so much. The following ministers took part in the obsequies — Rev. T. Richards (superintendent minister), who delivered a most impressive address and officiated at the graveside; Revs. W. Hall, W.E. Weobley, and W. Wilcock. The choir sang some of our sister’s favourite hymns. The funeral was largely attended, the circuit being well represented by its officials, all of whom manifested great sympathy towards the husband and son who are left to mourn her loss.
‘For ever with the Lord,
Amen! so let it be;
Life from the dead is in that word,
’Tis immortality.‘

Family and other information

Elizabeth was married to William Jones (abt 1849-1908). Both are buried in the graveyard at Tallarn Green Methodist Chapel.

I have not been able to locate them in census returns to be able to identify occupations or family. Can anyone point me in the right direction?
