Bowen, Benjamin (1819-1898)

Transcription of Obituary In the Christian Messenger

BROTHER BENJAMIN BOWEN was the brother of the late Rev. Robert Bowen, and was a member of the much respected family of Bowens living in the Bishops Castle circuit. For over 50 years he was a member of our Church at Asterton and Prolly Moor, where he resided, and for many years rendered faithful service as a local preacher. His principal work was done in the earlier period of the circuit’s history, but it was loyally and cheerfully given, and even up to within a few years of his death, he occasionally preached in the neighbourhood of his home. He was earnest and energetic in his manner, a man of prayer, and a great Bible reader. During the last years of his life he was a great sufferer, but bore his trial in patience, and endured hardness as a good soldier of Jesus Christ. His call is a loss to the circuit, and more especially to his home and family, but his work was done.
His toils are past, his work is done,
And he is fully blest,
He fought the light, the victory won;
And now he’s gone to rest.

He passed away on September 4th. 1898, at the age of 79, and was interred at Wentnor.

We trust we may meet him in our Father’s House.
